National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. Communities across the United States and Pennsylvania gather for block parties, cookouts, and safety demonstrations to build stronger partnerships between local law enforcement and neighborhoods. It connects residents with local police officers, K-9 units, and first responders in a positive setting, promotes block watches, drug prevention awareness, and local safety programs, and features free food, games, music, and emergency vehicle
The Lions Club of Mechanicsburg proudly supports this community celebration on the first Tuesday in October. Our participation in this event includes both the Mechanicsburg borough and Silver Spring township.
Recent Activities
National Night Out 2026 was held on Tuesday, August 4. This annual community engagement initiative fosters collaboration between law enforcement and local residents, strengthens neighborhood bonds, and enhances community safety through various family-oriented events, including block parties, barbecues, and safety demonstrations.
Our Lions volunteers provided vision screenings at two locations: Soldiers & Sailors Park in Mechanicsburg and Silver Spring. We conducted 14 vision screenings at Silver Spring, resulting in no referrals, and 21 screenings in Mechanicsburg, with one referral.
Numerous children participated in a raffle to win Police Dog or Fireman Bear stuffing kits.
