Lion Vicki Alfieri
Vicki Alfieri was born and raised in Cumberland, Md, and graduated from Frostburg State University. After college, she began her career in banking. In 1998, her job relocated her to the Harrisburg, PA area. She eventually moved from banking into the healthcare actuarial field and spent many years with Conrad Siegel Actuaries. She retired in 2021, and retirement gave her the opportunity to do something she had always wanted to do—spend more of her time volunteering and giving back to the community. The same year she retired, Vicki became a Lion. Five years later, she can honestly say that becoming a Lion has been one of the most rewarding parts of her retirement. She enjoys being part of a group of people who care about their community and are willing to roll up their sleeves and get things done.
Vicki’s passion for volunteering actually started several years earlier. In 2015, she began volunteering with Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD) when her stepdaughter attended their summer camp. They started out as puppy sitters, but within the first month, they found themselves raising their first puppy! Today, they are raising SSD Esther, their sixth dog. Her involvement with SSD has grown over the years. In addition to Puppy Raising and Puppy Sitting, she serve as the Regional Coordinator for the Mechanicsburg, Carlisle, and York areas. She also help with Whelping and Partner Retesting. If it involves organizing, dogs, or helping people, there’s a pretty good chance Vicki will enjoy it!
For Vicki, serving her community means giving her time, talents, and heart to make a difference in the lives of others. It doesn’t always mean doing something big. Sometimes it’s volunteering at an event, helping someone who needs a hand, supporting a local organization, or simply being there when someone needs you. She feels this is what also makes the Lions Club special. It brings together service, friendship, and heart. Members come together to make a real difference in the lives of people in their community. Along the way, they have fun, build friendships, and support one another.Her advice for someone who is considering joining the Lions Club is simple: come see what they’re all about. They are a group of people who genuinely care about their community, enjoy spending time together, and are always looking for ways to make a difference. You don’t have to know everything or be able to participate in everything. Everyone contributes in different ways, and every contribution matters. You’ll make new friends, have some fun, and most importantly, you’ll know that your time and efforts are helping others.

Boscov’s Friends Helping Friends Fundraiser – Discount Coupons have been distributed to all club members to sell. Please see a club member or contact our club secretary at mailto:mechanicsburglionsclub@gmail.com for coupons. Upcoming In-store sale dates are Oct. 20th, from 2-6 pm. Day of sale is Oct. 21st with our in-store sale time and location TBA.
Halloween Parade – Oct. 13th 4:45-7:15 pm. Club will be assisting organizing the parade at multiple locations.
American Red Cross Blood Drive – Nov. 12th – Lions Club of Mechanicsburg will be hosting the drive at Trindle Springs Lutheran Church from 11:30 am – 5:30 pm. Please call 1-800-Red Cross (1-800-733-2767 or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter: Trindle Spring to schedule an appointment.
Recent:
Harvest Festival – Oct. 9th – The Lions Club of Mechanicsburg was honored to participate in mechanics burg’s Harvest Festival at Finkenbinder Park. As a local community festival, it brings the community together for a festive fall celebration filled with autumn charm, friendly faces, and plenty of smiles doing crafts with children and marketing our Lions club. Pink Hands of Hope Service Project – Sept. 28th 9 am – The Mechanicsburg Lions Club recently extended a helping hand to Pink Hands of Hope during their Fall Project Day. Six Lions rolled up their sleeves on Monday, September 28, ready to lend a hand wherever they were needed. Legends Car Show – Sept 19th – The Lions Club of Mechanicsburg and Legends Senior Living joined forces on the 19th to bring joy to their residents through a car show. Operation Wildcat Tyke to Teens – Sept 17 – Five Lions put in some hard work sorting clothes for the Operation Wildcat Tykes to Teens project. We took off the hangers and pins and organized everything by size. Operation Wildcat told the Lions they’re grateful that we’re always ready to lend a hand. Regular Meeting – Sept 1st – District Governor Patti Wurzbacher Visitation – We were honored to host District Governor Patti Wurzbacher, her Partner in Service Wayne, and 2VDG Ronald Garman at our initial September meeting. Mission Central – Sept 1st – Lions Serving at Mission Central! We’re back at Mission Central, working under the direction of their new Volunteer Coordinator, Angel Flores! Community Aid Coat Drive – Sept 1st & 15Th – The Lions club collected over 100 coats to assist Community Aid.
Fall Picnic – Sept 13th – The club’s annual picnic was held at Pleasant View Park, Mechanicsburg. The weather, food, games and fun were fantastic and the picnic was a great success. “We Serve” Golf Tournament – The tournament is our club’s biggest fundraising event of the year. This year’s tournament was an outstanding success with 112 golfers and 87 sponsors. As our sponsors provide a significant amount to the success of this fundraiser please consider them for your various needs.
